THE Kovenant Prepare for Studio Sessions with Eight New Tracks

THE KOVENANT are moving closer to their first studio release in over two decades. In a recent interview with Australia's Everblack podcast, vocalist and bassist Stian "Nagash" Arnesen revealed that the band currently has eight new songs ready for the upcoming record. With just two more tracks needed to reach a ten-song set, the band hopes to enter the studio by the end of this year.

The reunion was originally intended as a limited run of festival appearances, but the chemistry between members and the addition of two new guitarists—Ghul from MAYHEM and Knut from ARCTURUS—has pushed the project toward a full-scale studio effort. Nagash describes the musical direction as a blend of the band's entire discography, incorporating elements from 'SETI', 'Nexus Polaris', and their debut album, while also featuring "Animatronic"-style tracks.

To me, it sounds more metal than it used to. But also I hope there's gonna be parts where people go... 'What the hell are you fucking guys doing now?'

While the new material is intended to be more metal and darker than previous iterations, Nagash insists it isn't a mere retread of past successes. The songwriting process currently involves Nagash and keyboardist Steinar Sverd, alongside the two newcomers who bring unique approaches to the fold. Despite the absence of founding member Psy Coma due to health issues, the band aims for a sound that remains distinctly theirs while embracing new experimentation.
