Stone Temple Pilots frontman Jeff Gutt has confirmed he is currently in the studio in Los Angeles to finalise the debut album from his long-running project, We Are Not Machines. The collaboration features Evanescence drummer Will Hunt, who has been involved with the project for over a decade.

Gutt revealed in an interview with Paul Cashmere of Noise11 that the record was left half-finished ten years ago. He expressed a personal need to see the project through to completion, noting that he cannot leave the work unfinished. The project is currently being overseen by a new producer to help piece the material together. Gutt also confirmed that a guest guitarist is scheduled to fly in shortly to assist with the final stages of the recording process.

I can't make half a record and then leave it, and it's been 10 years, so it's like... I can't just leave it halfway done.

While the album is still being polished, Gutt expressed interest in taking We Are Not Machines on the road once the release is finalised. However, he acknowledged that touring will require careful scheduling to accommodate his commitments with Stone Temple Pilots and Hunt's obligations with Evanescence. Despite the logistical hurdles, Gutt remains committed to growing the project and seeing where it leads.

Since joining Stone Temple Pilots in 2017, Gutt has become a staple of the band's lineup, following in the footsteps of previous vocalists Scott Weiland and Chester Bennington.
