Steven Wilson has revealed that the upcoming second album from his collaborative project, Storm Corrosion, will feature a sprawling 45-minute musical centerpiece. Speaking to Prog magazine about the follow-up to the 2012 debut, Wilson described the piece as a "framework" created during a week in Stockholm.

"It's almost entirely acoustic, but it's very dark, very atonal in places, and very beautiful in places," Wilson explained. The piece follows a vaguely nautical theme involving a man shipwrecked on an island. While primarily acoustic, Wilson confirmed that Mikael Åkerfeldt still contributes electric guitar parts to the arrangement. The duo utilised an extensive collection of instruments provided by Benny Andersson of ABBA to craft the piece, which Wilson noted he approached with the focus of a "man possessed."

A single piece of music that is 45 minutes long, and it's fucked up.

Wilson also noted the connection between this new work and his solo output, suggesting the project continues a specific musical vocabulary. Despite the evolution of his solo career, Wilson maintains that his collaborative work with Åkerfeldt remains driven by shared creative impulses rather than "careerism." The collaboration follows the 2024 reissue of their debut, which was lauded for its blend of Krautrock influences and British folk sensibilities.
