Cro-Mags Set New Studio Album for Early Next Year
Harley Flanagan reveals the recording progress for the next CRO-MAGS studio album following 'Wired For Chaos'.
Harley Flanagan has confirmed that the next CRO-MAGS studio album is nearing completion, with a release expected in early 2024. Speaking to WSOU 89.5 FM, Flanagan revealed that nine songs have already been tracked, with a further six compositions penned and scheduled for the studio in the coming weeks. "I always try to get a couple of extra in there, so six will probably turn into eight," Flanagan noted.
The upcoming record serves as the follow-up to 2020's 'In The Beginning' and follows the June release of "Wired For Chaos". Flanagan explained that 'Wired For Chaos' was recorded during the same session as the other studio tracks, providing a clear sonic roadmap for the album's direction. The new material draws from a heavy heritage of influences, including MOTÖRHEAD, BAD BRAINS, DISCHARGE, and BLACK SABBATH.
It's everything I grew up on. I'm always evolving, but it's all those same ingredients.
Flanagan described his creative process as somewhat spontaneous, noting that he often records riffs on his phone while walking or sitting on the couch. Lyrics typically arrive as separate sparks of inspiration, often just as he is falling asleep. Despite the lack of a set method, Flanagan ensures that only the strongest ideas, those that consistently "come back" to him, make the cut for the final cut.
