Within Temptation Set To Pivot Toward Raw, Human Elements On Upcoming Record
Sharon Den Adel hints at a shift toward raw, emotional sounds and a rejection of AI-assisted production.
WITHIN TEMPTATION frontwoman Sharon Den Adel has teased a significant sonic evolution for the band's next studio effort. Speaking to Czech television ÓČKO, Den Adel suggested that while the upcoming follow-up to 2023's "Bleed Out" will move away from the metalcore influences of the previous record, it will lean heavily into raw, extreme emotion.
In a move that prioritises organic performance over digital polish, the band has pledged to avoid AI in their creative process. Den Adel expressed a desire to capture "one-takers" that retain human imperfections. "As AI is taking over so much of music these days, it takes out the soul out of music, to my opinion," she stated, noting that "perfection lies in imperfection."
The sound is gonna completely change with the next album. Like 100% difference.
The vocalist described the new material as a "huge" shift that explores musical territory the band has never ventured into before. While the band's history of social activism remains a core component of their identity, Den Adel noted the upcoming work will reflect a broader global perspective on a world that has grown increasingly interconnected and complex.
Despite the scale of the transformation, Den Adel remains tight-lipped on the specific genre shift, noting that the album is still being recorded and developed. She previously told Metal Hammer Germany that the new sound would be a "100% difference" from their previous work, though she cannot yet disclose exactly how much the needle will move.
