Obituary bassist Terry Butler has confirmed that the Florida death metal stalwarts are actively discussing the creation of a new studio album. While a specific timeline has not been etched in stone, Butler told Pod Scum's Rexx Ruger that the band is moving into a phase of "throwing around some ideas" for a future release.

Butler noted that the current landscape of the music industry allows for a slower production cycle than in previous decades. With the modern reliance on touring and merchandise, he suggested that a two-to-three-year gap between records is now the standard. "There's no reason to rush it," Butler explained, noting the band's extensive catalogue provides plenty of material for live performances, even as the "fire" remains to produce fresh material.

We don't want to rush it. We'll take our time and write the best songs we possibly can.

The sentiment of constant creation is echoed by frontman John Tardy, who previously stated the band is perpetually collecting rhythms and song titles. Tardy noted that guitarist Trevor Peres often captures new ideas on his phone during soundchecks. While the band remains busy on the road covering the ground from previous releases, the goal remains to begin consolidating these fragments into a cohesive new work.

Drummer Donald Tardy echoed this measured approach, stating that while the band is having a blast, the priority is quality over speed. Though he avoided firming up dates for 2026 or 2027, he confirmed that the band intends to craft the best possible songs for the fans, just as they did with 2023's "Dying Of Everything".
