Steven Wilson Announces New Album 'Requiem For A Village'

Steven Wilson has confirmed the details of his upcoming ninth studio album, 'Requiem For A Village', arriving via Fiction Records on Friday, November 6. Following the space-faring themes of 2025's 'The Overview', Wilson is pivoting to a 'hauntological' realm inspired by the British Isles, trading cosmic desolation for a rural, forgotten aesthetic inspired by the works of M.R. James and local folklore.

In a deliberate move away from modern studio fixes and A.I. tools, Wilson has adopted an unorthodox recording method that embraces organic imperfection and 'human gestures'. To achieve this, he utilised analogue synths, intentionally un-tuned instruments, and even took up instruments he doesn't fully master, including the violin and oboe, to capture a sense of innocence. The album features a narrative written by XTC's Andy Partridge and voiced by David Tennant.

I wanted to get back to a kind of music where you can hear the metaphorical thumbprints.

Fans can currently stream the title track, a piece Wilson describes as a 'pummeling cluster' of percussion and scratchy guitars. The release will be available across numerous formats, including a 96-page hardback boxset. Wilson will perform a special DJ set at The Social in London on September 22 to raise funds for the charity Here 2 Belong, followed by two sold-out shows at Royal Albert Hall on October 28-29.
