Respect The Hustle, I Won't Be Your Dog Forever
Ronker’s Respect The Hustle, I Won’t Be Your Dog Forever arrives with its fists already clenched. The vocals bark, the guitars grind, and the rhythm section pushes every song forward with the blunt insistence of a crowd refusing to leave the room. That physical commitment is the album’s clearest strength. “Tall Stories” and the title track establish a hard, confrontational pulse, while “No Sweat” and “Clear The Air” tighten the attack with shorter phrases and a more direct sense of motion.
The hustle is convincing; the songs are less certain what to do once the doors are kicked in.
The problem is that force is asked to carry too much of the record. Several tracks rely on the same combination of shouted hooks, churning riffs and abrupt accents, but without enough contrast in melody or arrangement to make each song feel necessary. “Snuff” and “Where The Dogs Sleep” briefly introduce a darker, more controlled atmosphere, yet the album often rushes back toward the same pressure setting before those ideas can deepen. The aggression feels real, but the structures sometimes resemble variations on a single confrontation.
The vocal performance is strongest when the phrasing cuts through the instrumentation rather than merely doubling its intensity. “House Of Hunger” and “Deliver The Liver” benefit from sharper rhythmic placement, giving the words a sense of purpose instead of allowing them to blur into the general noise. Elsewhere, the production keeps everything loud and close, which suits the material but leaves little space for tension to accumulate.
By the closing stretch, “Limelighter” and “Using Eyes” suggest a band capable of more than pure abrasion. There are hints of restraint, disorientation and unease that could have given the album a broader emotional range. As it stands, Respect The Hustle is committed and physically effective, but only intermittently distinctive. It communicates resistance clearly; it is less successful at turning that resistance into songs that remain vivid once the immediate impact fades.
