Kirk Windstein Confirms New Crowbar Writing Sessions Set for Early Next Year
CROWBAR frontman Kirk Windstein reveals plans to begin writing the band's next studio effort in early 2024.
CROWBAR frontman Kirk Windstein has confirmed that the Louisiana doom legends will begin the writing process for their next studio album at the start of the new year. Speaking to Metalcavern, Windstein expressed confidence in the creative process, noting that while the band has been away from the writing desk for some time, their prolific nature should see the new material take shape rapidly.
Windstein highlighted the collaborative strengths of his bandmates, praising guitarist Matt Brunson and bassist Pat Bruders for their respective contributions. While Windstein handles the bulk of the riffs, he credited Brunson with delivering high-quality parts and noted that Bruders, who contributed heavily to the latest DOWN record, remains an exceptionally gifted songwriter. The final hurdle for the upcoming album involves synchronising the writing schedule with drummer Tommy Buckley's availability.
We're ready to dive into the new CROWBAR first of the year and just get this thing rolling.
This upcoming release will follow "Zero And Below", which debuted in April 2022 via MNRK Heavy and was hailed as the band's most doom-driven work since 1998. Since the band's inception in 1990, Windstein has guided CROWBAR through various lineups, maintaining their signature blend of sludge and hardcore influence. Having solidified their status as pillars of the doom scene over 36 years, the band is now poised to return to the studio to continue their legacy of punishing, heavy-hitting metal.
