CBGB Expands Licensing Program Ahead of Annual Festival
The iconic 'Home of Underground Rock' expands its lifestyle brand partnerships just in time for its Brooklyn festival weekend.
Global Merchandising Services has announced an expanded roster of licensing partners for CBGB & OMFUG, the legendary New York birthplace of punk and new wave. The move aims to transition the brand from a historic venue into a broader lifestyle staple, incorporating new fashion, accessories, and lifestyle collaborations. The expansion arrives just ahead of the second annual CBGB Festival, taking place at Brooklyn's Under The K Bridge on September 25 and 26.
The growing licensing programme includes high-profile collaborations with brands such as John Varvatos, Dixxon, Greasy Hands Society, Civil Regime, Lauren Moshi, and Boy Vienna. These partnerships focus on leveraging the club's unmistakable visual identity to create products that appeal to both long-time fans and a younger generation of music lovers. Lisa Streff, SVP of licensing and brand development at Global Merchandising Services, noted that the goal is to partner with those who respect the club's influence while bringing a fresh creative perspective to the brand.
CBGB is one of those rare brands where the history is incredibly powerful, but the attitude remains completely relevant.
The upcoming festival weekend features a heavy-hitting lineup across both days. The Friday kickoff features THE PRODIGY, BRUTALISMUS 3000, SEXTILE, and LIP CRITIC. Saturday's main bill includes Patti Smith, MORRISSEY, INTERPOL, and SEX PISTOLS featuring Steve Jones, Paul Cook, and Glen Matlock, alongside a diverse roster including BIKINI KILL, AGNOSTIC FRONT, BUZZCOCKS, and CIRCLE JERKS. The event will also showcase artifacts from the original club to bridge the gap between its punk-rock history and its evolving future.
