Geoff Tate to Perform 'Operation: Mindcrime' in Full for Final Time

Ex-Queensrÿche vocalist Geoff Tate has announced that the 2026 leg of his "Operation: Mindcrime - The Final Chapter" tour will see him performing the 1988 masterpiece in its entirety for the final time. Speaking to Trust In Rock, the 67-year-old singer admitted that the decision stems from a practical need to wrap up the project while he is still physically capable of delivering the demanding set. "I don't want to try to go out there and play it if I'm hobbling around and ailing," Tate explained, noting that the album remains a significant workout mentally and physically.

Since the 2014 legal settlement following his departure from Queensrÿche, Tate has held the sole right to perform the "Operation: Mindcrime" and "Operation: Mindcrime II" albums in full. The 1988 original remains a cornerstone of the genre, exploring themes of drug abuse, religion, and radical politics. Despite the fact that its successor was often viewed as a polarizing follow-up, the original album remains a platinum-selling staple of heavy metal history.

Tate recently completed the trilogy with "Operation: Mindcrime III", a solo release produced by Disturbed bassist John Moyer. While the original concept followed the plight of Nikki, the third instalment shifts the perspective to the mysterious figure of Dr. X. Tate noted the enduring relevance of the narrative today, suggesting the themes of manipulation and disillusionment are still very much alive in the modern world.
