Cannibal Corpse's Paul Mazurkiewicz Reflects on the Toll of Decades on the Road

Paul Mazurkiewicz of Cannibal Corpse has candidly addressed the shifting realities of life on the road after nearly four decades of punishing death metal. In a recent sit-down with Pod Scum, the veteran drummer admitted that while the band's commitment to their fans remains steadfast, the experience of touring is no longer the same as it was in the early days. "We'd be lying if [we said], 'Oh, it's just as exciting and gung-ho as it was in the early days,'" Mazurkiewicz noted, acknowledging that while it is part of the job, the physical and mental toll of living on a bus becomes more pronounced with age.

To maintain his sanity and physical condition, Mazurkiewicz now prioritises basics like proper hydration, nutrition, and consistent exercise. He noted that while he still possesses the energy to perform, he no longer relies on the "natural adrenaline" of youth. Instead, he compensates with rigorous practice schedules to ensure he can still deliver high-intensity performances, such as the band's signature "Hammer Smashed Face," with conviction.

Despite the challenges, the Florida-based drummer remains dedicated to the craft. While he admits he cannot predict if he will be able to perform at this level in another decade, he remains focused on the present. The band continues to forge ahead, having recently released their sixteenth studio album, "Chaos Horrific", in September 2023.
