Blackie Lawless Performs Pre-W.A.S.P. Classic 'Mr. Cool' on '1984 To Headless' Tour

W.A.S.P. frontman Blackie Lawless has confirmed the decision to perform 'Mr. Cool' during the '1984 To Headless' tour, a track dating back to his pre-W.A.S.P. days. The song originally appeared on a demo by his former band SISTER, which eventually evolved into 'Cries In The Night' on the 1985 album 'The Last Command'.

During a VIP Q&A session in Riverside, California, Lawless explained the motivations behind resurrecting the track. The song was penned by Lawless at age 18, but a former bandmate claimed ownership of the demo in a deal for $5,000, leading to a copyright infringement lawsuit when the band's second album arrived. Lawless noted that while the lyrics were remarkably astute for a teenager at the time, he is performing the original version now primarily for his own sake.

'Mr. Cool' is a rare inclusion for the setlist, which predominantly features material from the first four W.A.S.P. records. The band kicked off the North American leg of the tour in September, featuring a theatrical production inspired by original album artwork. While '1984 To Headless' is currently touring the US and Canada, W.A.S.P. is slated to take the production to Europe and the rest of the world in 2027.
