Anette Olzon Kicks Off European Tour Celebrating Her Nightwish Era

BY KLARA DE VRIES

Former Nightwish vocalist Anette Olzon has launched a European tour revisiting her time with the symphonic metal giants, beginning at Kaaos Festival.

Anette Olzon, formerly of Nightwish, has officially kicked off a European tour celebrating her contributions to the band's "Dark Passion Play" (2007) and "Imaginaerum" (2011) albums. The tour commenced on Saturday, July 25 at Kaaos Festival in Vaasa, Finland, marking Anette's first continental trek since 2012.

The performance featured a setlist brimming with Nightwish classics, including "7 Days To The Wolves", "Ghost River", and "Amaranth". This tour follows a similar Brazilian venture last fall where she performed the iconic songs from her era with Nightwish for the first time as a solo artist.

She felt the time was right to do those albums justice.

Anette's return to performing these tracks comes after years of processing the circumstances surrounding her departure from Nightwish in 2012, an event that abruptly ended her career and forced her to rebuild. In a recent interview, she explained that she felt ready to "do those albums justice" and address lingering bitterness.

The current lineup includes Anette Olzon (vocals), Filipe Duarte (bass, male vocals), Sanzio Rocha (guitars), Kiko Lopes (drums) and Vithor Moraes (keyboards). While acknowledging the presence of Floor Jansen performing her former songs, Anette expressed a desire for reconciliation within the Nightwish camp, even suggesting a collaborative show featuring all past vocalists.

Despite attempts to foster a closer relationship with Nightwish's Tuomas Holopainen, she acknowledges that such a reunion remains unlikely, but hopes he will consider it "for the fans."
