Tony Iommi Drops 'Stormwatcher' Ahead of Solo LP 'From The Dark'
Black Sabbath legend Tony Iommi delivers a haunting maritime-themed single ahead of his new solo album, 'From The Dark'.
Tony Iommi has delivered a searing new single titled "Stormwatcher", serving as a centerpiece for his upcoming solo album, "From The Dark". The track is anchored by a signature riff from the legendary guitarist and weaves a nautical tale of a vessel battling a heavy storm. The imagery is bolstered by a dramatic animated video designed to bring vocalist Jørn Lande's lyrical voyage from birth to death to life.
"Stormwatcher" is just one of several highlights on the forthcoming record, where Iommi teams up with Lande, bassist Becky Baldwin, and drummer Karl Brazil. Produced alongside long-time collaborator Mike Exeter, the album aims for a crystalline, modern production while retaining the heavy, heavy-hearted atmosphere that defines Iommi's career.
It's an album we've really enjoyed making. We're not trying to prove anything — it's a great album, it rocks!
Iommi remains characteristically understated regarding his output, noting that the band "isn't trying to prove anything" but rather focuses on the fact that "it rocks". Following the first single, "World Alone", and the track "Over The Violent Sun", "Stormwatcher" establishes the heavy, existential tone of the record. Released just a year after Black Sabbath's final show in Birmingham, the album serves as a testament to Iommi's enduring creative spark in the heavy metal landscape.
