In Flames Welcome Matt Heafy and Mikael Stanne for Hometown Celebration
In Flames delivered a massive hometown performance in Gothenburg, joined by special guests from Trivium and Dark Tranquillity.
In Flames turned their Gothenburg hometown into a melting pot of melodic death metal heavyweights during a headlining set at the Göteborg Brinner festival. The Swedish veterans were joined by guest appearances from both Dark Tranquillity vocalist Mikael Stanne and Trivium frontman Matt Heafy on Saturday, 22 August.
Heafy joined the fray for "Artifacts Of The Black Rain", a nod to the 1996 release "The Jester Race". Stanne took over vocal duties alongside Anders Fridén for "Behind Space", a track dating back to the band's 1994 debut, "Lunar Strain". Stanne later shared the moment on social media, praising the "incredible" local crowd and the experience of sharing the stage with his peers.
I'm really honored and humbled to hear those things, but I don't let it get to my head.
While the band continues to cement their legacy, they are also looking forward. In Flames recently spent time in the studio with Grammy-nominated producer Howard Benson to record their fifteenth studio album. This upcoming release will also mark the recording debut for drummer Jon Rice.
In a recent interview, Fridén dismissed claims that they intended to redefine the genre, stating they were simply fans trying to create their own version of heavy metal. While acknowledging that modern bands often draw from their sound, Fridén remains firm that the primary goal is to keep the music moving forward through shared inspiration.
