Van Halen's 'A Different Kind Of Truth' Set for CD and Vinyl Reissue

Rhino is set to reissue Van Halen's final studio outing, "A Different Kind of Truth", on both CD and a 2LP vinyl set starting on October 23. The vinyl edition will be pressed on 180-gram wax in a double gatefold package, with the lacquers cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. Collectors can also hunt for a limited crystal-clear vinyl variant, available exclusively through Rhino.com and at select independent retailers.

Originally released in early 2012, the record marked the first studio album featuring David Lee Roth alongside the Van Halen brothers since their multi-platinum "1984" masterpiece. The album climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard 200, earning significant praise from critics and fans alike for its sophisticated songwriting.

The fact that that record happened at all, I think, is kind of a miracle.

Wolfgang Van Halen has previously reflected on the miracle of the record's existence. In a 2025 interview with Paul Cashmere, Wolfgang noted that the band moved into the studio after a tour, eventually mining old demos and unfinished ideas from the 1970s. He described the process as a way to return the band to their original creative mindset.

Though it was their final studio effort, the album stands as a testament to the band's enduring legacy. Following a 1978 debut that redefined the rock landscape, the group amassed over 75 million sales and earned two RIAA diamond certifications. The upcoming reissue ensures these final offerings of the Van Halen repertoire remain accessible for the next generation of fans.
