The Smashing Pumpkins Debut 'Black Stars' for New Hunger Games Soundtrack

The Smashing Pumpkins have officially premiered the music video for 'Black Stars', a heavy original contribution to the upcoming soundtrack "The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping (The Album)". The track marks a significant milestone for the multi-platinum icons, as it sees the band reunite with acclaimed producer Butch Vig for the first time since the creation of their 1993 masterpiece, Siamese Dream.

Recorded at Chaplin Studios in Los Angeles with additional sessions in Chicago, 'Black Stars' was forged during a period when Billy Corgan was focused on solo material. The collaboration with Vig was specifically intended to select the track that best captured the atmosphere of the world of Panem. The song is currently being featured in the band's setlist as they headline arenas across North America on the "The Rats In A Cage" tour.

Executive produced by Grammy winner Dave Cobb, the soundtrack features 29 cross-genre artists providing original scores. The accompanying film, directed by Francis Lawrence, is scheduled for a theatrical release on 20 November 2026. The soundtrack itself arrives on 13 November via MCA, providing a cinematic backdrop to the story of Haymitch Abernathy's journey in the 50th annual Games.
