Steve Lukather Announces Vinyl and Digital Re-release of 'Santamental'
TOTO's Steve Lukather is reviving the long-out-of-print 2003 holiday album, featuring guests like Slash and Steve Vai.
TOTO mainstay Steve "Luke" Lukather has confirmed the official re-release of the 2003 album "Santamental". Having been out of print for several years, the holiday collection will finally see the light of day on vinyl, CD, and digital platforms. The digital and CD versions are scheduled for release on November 7, with vinyl shipments following shortly thereafter. Pre-orders for the physical copies are currently live at www.stevelukather.com.
The tracklist serves as a prestigious gathering of heavyweights, featuring guest spots from Slash, Steve Vai, and a nod to the late Eddie Van Halen. The album includes a heavy-hitting rendition of "Broken Heart For Christmas" featuring Slash on guitar, as well as "Carol Of The Bells" showcasing the interplay between Lukather and Steve Vai. Other highlights include "Joy To The World" with Eddie Van Halen, and "Winter Wonderland" featuring a vocal duet with Edgar Winter.
For years, fans have been asking. It's been almost twenty-five years since we recorded this album.
Lukather revealed the entire record was captured in just six days. The production avoided the modern safety nets of Pro Tools or click tracks, instead opting for live 24-track analog recordings. Lukather noted the project was originally conceived by producers Elliot Scheiner, Al Schmitt, and Ed Cherney. To add some weight to the revival, one hundred percent of the artist proceeds from the release will be donated to the Ed Asner Family Center, a facility providing resources for individuals with special needs.
