Nightwish Set to Enter Studio for New Album in May 2027

Nightwish keyboardist and primary songwriter Tuomas Holopainen has confirmed that the band will enter the studio to record their eleventh album in May 2027. Speaking to Chaoszine, Holopainen revealed that the creative process is already well underway, with seven new songs currently penned for the follow-up to the 2024 release, 'Yesterwynde'.

Holopainen insists the creative period has been exceptionally fruitful, stating that he feels more inspired than ever when sitting at his keyboard. While the band has avoided the live circuit for over three years to avoid burnout, Holopainen notes that while next year is too soon for a tour, he is eager to get the new material recorded. He confirmed that while 2027 might see a live appearance to mark the band's 30th anniversary, the priority remains the studio work.

The break has really been good for us because I just feel like the songs are coming like never before.

Beyond the main band, Holopainen is also preparing a solo album slated for release next year, currently undergoing orchestration with James Shearman in London. The sabbatical from touring has allowed the members to find their balance, a sentiment echoed by multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley. Donockley noted that the band remains a tight-knit unit despite the extended hiatus, and while they have no fixed timeline for a return to the stage, the 2027 milestone offers a potential window for live performances.
