STRYPER frontman Michael Sweet has clarified his stance on the possibility of joining King Diamond's band, citing fundamental spiritual differences as the reason for a polite refusal. While Sweet remains open to a collaborative stage appearance with the metal icons, he made it clear that a permanent membership would cross a personal line.

Speaking with Scott Itter of Dr. Music, Sweet explained that while he respects the man behind the mask, he cannot compromise on the message of his own faith. "I don't agree with anything spiritually in terms of what he sings about versus what we sing. It's a polar opposite," Sweet noted. He added that joining the band would feel like "betraying my, my faith, betraying myself and what I stand for."

I would feel like I'm basically betraying my, my faith, betraying myself and what I stand for.

Despite the ideological chasm, the two musicians have developed a cordial rapport since meeting at a festival in Mexico in 2022. Sweet recounted their meeting as a moment where the theatricality of the metal scene faded, revealing two individuals "just trying to figure it out." While he wouldn't join forces as a bandmate, Sweet confirmed he would "absolutely" tour with King Diamond or perform alongside Mercyful Fate.

Reflecting on the interaction, Sweet noted that while some in his fan base were surprised by his cordiality with the heavy metal figurehead, he views the encounter as a reminder that beneath the personas, they are both just "people." He remains open to a potential duet or a joint song, provided it aligns with his personal convictions.
