Mortal Sin Set To Drop Best-Of Collection And Live Tapes In 2027
Australian thrash legends Mortal Sin confirm a 2027 release schedule featuring a best-of collection and exclusive archival tapes.
Australian thrash metal pioneers Mortal Sin have revealed a roadmap of upcoming releases to tide fans over while the band works on fresh material. In a recent interview with Rauta, vocalist Mat Maurer confirmed that the 2026 lineup plans to launch a best-of compilation early next year, featuring curated tracks from their discography. "We're going to do a best-of album, 'cause we've never done a best-of. So we're gonna pick three or four songs off each album, and just to do a vinyl, just to get it out there.", Maurer explained.
Beyond the retrospective collection, the band will release a bootleg of their Keep It True festival set recorded in April 2026, alongside a prized archival piece: a desk tape from their 1989 performance with Metallica in Melbourne. These releases serve as a strategic buffer while the band navigates the arduous process of songwriting. "Writing, man, writing is the hardest thing. And I don't know as a guitarist what it's like to write. I don't know if it just comes naturally to them, but for me, for lyrics, it's, like, 'Fuck'."
We're gonna do a best-of album... we're gonna make a bootleg... and then we've got a desk tape of when we played with Metallica.
Following a triumphant return to the stage in early 2026, the band celebrated significant milestones, including 40 years of "Mayhemic Destruction". The current lineup features original members Maurer and Andy Eftichiou, alongside Nathan Shea, Ryan Huthnance, and new addition George Delinicolis. After a string of successful dates across Europe and Australia throughout late 2025 and 2026, the band remains focused on capturing the right "story" and "timbre" for their next chapter.
