Masterplan Complete New Album ‘Metalmorphosis’

Masterplan have completed their new studio album “Metalmorphosis”. Guitarist and producer Roland Grapow finished the final mix and mastering shortly before the band began a Latin American tour, with release expected through Frontiers Music in 2026.

Grapow describes the record as a heavier and more metal-focused return to the group’s roots. Progressive details and melodic choruses remain central, but the album contains fewer pop-oriented songs than some previous releases. The title reflects that shift toward a more direct power metal foundation without abandoning Masterplan’s established variety.

The record contains ten songs written primarily by Grapow and keyboardist Axel Mackenrott, with additional contributions from outside writers in Slovakia and Sweden. Grapow wrote lyrics for nine tracks, while vocalist Rick Altzi supplied one. Several completed pieces were held back because their brighter or folk-influenced character did not fit the final sequence.

Three videos were filmed before mastering was completed, and the first single is expected to precede the album by several months. “Metalmorphosis” also begins Masterplan’s relationship with Frontiers after a long period with AFM Records. Grapow said the new label offered the direct enthusiasm and attention he felt had been missing.

The album will be Masterplan’s first full collection of original material since “Novum Initium” in 2013. Grapow spent much of the intervening period producing other artists and released “PumpKings”, a set of reworked Helloween songs, in 2017.
