Guitar titans Joe Satriani and Steve Vai have finally formalised their half-century of musical kinship with the announcement of their debut studio album, "The Sea Of Emotion". Released under the moniker SATCHVAI, the record is slated for a November 6, 2026 release via earMUSIC. To kick things off, the pair have dropped "Mayhem", a blistering new single that serves as the first taste of their combined prowess.

The collaboration traces back to 1973, when a teenage Vai began taking lessons from a slightly older Satriani in Long Island. While the duo became global icons and shared stages on the legendary "G3" tours, the decision to record together grew out of a "G3" reunion tour. What started as a plan for a single track expanded rapidly when Satriani shared two finished pieces with Vai, prompting the realization that the time for a full album had arrived.

The biggest surprise was that we write in completely different ways... That's what made the project so fun and interesting.

Despite their shared influences, the pair noted that their creative processes are starkly different, a contrast that defined the recording experience. Produced by Eric Caudieux, the album features a massive roster of collaborators including Glenn Hughes and a heavy-hitting rhythm section featuring names like Billy Sheehan and Gregg Bissonette. The tracklist moves from raw rock 'n' roll to cinematic atmospheres, culminating in a three-part suite that incorporates a vintage reel-to-reel recording from Vai's early lessons with Satriani.
