Raven Cover ‘Metal Militia’ for Metallica Tribute
Raven have recorded ‘Metal Militia’ for a complete all-star tribute to Metallica’s ‘Kill ’Em All’.
Raven have released a cover of Metallica’s “Metal Militia” from the forthcoming collection “No Life ’Til Leather — A Tribute To Metallica’s Kill ’Em All”. Silver Lining Music will issue the album on November 14 across vinyl, CD and digital formats.
The choice carries a direct historical connection. Raven took Metallica on the 1983 “Kill ’Em All For One” tour, the latter band’s first substantial road campaign. Raven bassist and vocalist John Gallagher said the group deliberately altered several elements while preserving the aggressive character of the original. Guitarist Mark Gallagher also contributes vocals.
The cover reconnects Raven with the band they took on Metallica’s first major tour in 1983.
The ten-track tribute follows the original “Kill ’Em All” sequence. Contributors include Tailgunner, The Almighty, Soen, Tygers Of Pan Tang, David Ellefson, Motörhead, Saxon, Diamond Head, Testament and Raven. Several selections draw on musicians who influenced Metallica directly, while others represent later generations shaped by the album.
Earlier singles included The Almighty’s first founding-lineup recording since 1991, a version of “The Four Horsemen”, and Ellefson’s interpretation of Cliff Burton’s bass instrumental “(Anesthesia) — Pulling Teeth”. Diamond Head’s “No Remorse” previously appeared on the band’s re-recorded “Lightning To The Nations”.
Raven’s involvement completes a circle that began when the young Metallica supported them across difficult American club dates. Both bands later reunited for the 2022 concert honouring Megaforce Records founders Jon and Marsha Zazula.
