Dream Theater Begin Work on 17th Studio Album
Progressive metal titans Dream Theater have confirmed they are officially in the studio to begin work on their next record.
Progressive metal heavyweights Dream Theater have confirmed they have begun the creative process for their seventeenth studio album. The band shared a photo of the five members at Ytse Jam Studios with a caption confirming that "#DT17 is underway..." as they begin work on the follow-up to the 2025 release, Parasomnia.
While the band has been touring extensively since October 2024, the move into the studio marks a significant shift in focus. Earlier this year, vocalist James LaBrie hinted at the collaborative nature of their writing process, noting that the band waits until they can find a direction they can stand behind 100% before fully committing to a new chapter.
Dream Theater confirmed that they have started working on the follow-up to the Parasomnia album.
Drummer Mike Portnoy, who rejoined the fold in 2023, previously noted that the band would take a breather following their extensive tour cycle before diving into new material. With the studio sessions now underway, the band moves closer to defining the next era of their career following the success of Parasomnia and their recent live releases.
