Voivod Progressing Towards New Studio Album with Eight Tracks Underway

VOIVOD are steadily carving out the blueprint for their next studio outing, with guitarist Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain confirming that eight tracks are currently in the works. Speaking to the Gas Masks & Hand Grenades podcast, Mongrain revealed that three of these tracks have already been recorded, with the remaining five slated for completion following their upcoming tour of the United States in October.

Balancing his role as the band's guitarist with his position as a music department director at a Quebec college presents a logistical challenge, but Mongrain remains committed to the grind. The band's creative momentum is bolstered by the musical expertise of Mongrain, whose background in jazz and music theory provides a sophisticated edge to the group's sci-fi aesthetic. Drummer Michel "Away" Langevin has hinted that the forthcoming LP will function as a concept piece featuring the band's mascot, Korgull, and aims for a cinematic, movie-soundtrack feel.

We have maybe eight songs that we started to work on. Three are already recorded, and we're gonna finish the other ones after that U.S. tour.

Langevin also noted that the band is pushing toward more experimental territories, drawing on Mongrain's ability to arrange complex parts for brass and strings. While a firm release date for the new LP isn't confirmed, Langevin suggests a 2027 timeframe to allow fans to digest the flurry of recent projects, including the live "Symphonique" album, the "Nuclear Warrior" video game, and the "Always Moving" book. The prolific Canadian pioneers continue to stay busy, ensuring their loyal fanbase remains well-fed with new content.
