Overspace & Supertime

Overspace & Supertime does not ask for attention politely. It seizes the listener with long-form structures, violent technical movement and a vocal performance that treats every phrase like a transmission from a collapsing dimension. Cryptic Shift clearly want scale, and they achieve it. The question is whether that scale always communicates.

Overspace & Supertime has real force, but its best ideas hit hardest when the architecture stops swallowing the attack.

“Cryogenically Frozen” establishes the record’s central language: jagged thrash propulsion, death-metal density and sudden shifts in spatial perspective. The aggression is real because the rhythm section drives rather than merely decorates the complexity. The vocals cut through with a harsh, commanding tone, preventing the instrumental detail from becoming sterile exhibition.

“Stratocumulus Evergaol” expands the palette through slower pressure and wider intervals. Its strongest passages create genuine tension between control and disorientation. “Hyperspace Topography” then accelerates that conflict, moving through riff clusters that feel less like conventional sections than competing gravitational fields. This is exciting music when the transitions sharpen the emotional stakes. It is less effective when another detour appears simply because the composition can sustain one.

The enormous “Hexagonal Eyes (Diverity Trepaphymphasyzm)” is the album’s decisive test. It contains some of the record’s most forceful material, particularly when the vocals and drums lock into a direct assault. Yet its scale also exposes the limitation of the approach: intensity becomes harder to measure when almost every passage is presented as a major event.

The title track functions as a final statement rather than a simple conclusion. Its best moments feel earned, with technical detail serving atmosphere and violence simultaneously. Elsewhere, the length diffuses impact.

Still, Overspace & Supertime is not empty virtuosity. It has identity, aggression and a coherent hostile atmosphere. A more ruthless edit might have made it exceptional. As it stands, it remains an ambitious and frequently powerful record whose excess is both its defining strength and its main obstacle.
