Anthrax Near Completion of Long-Awaited Album

Anthrax are close to completing their long-awaited follow-up to 2016’s “For All Kings”. Drummer Charlie Benante says only one song remains to be mixed, with the finished album currently expected in early 2026.

The band again worked with producer Jay Ruston, whose previous Anthrax credits include “Worship Music” and “For All Kings”. Mixing and portions of the recording took place at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in California. Benante says the record only revealed its full character once the songs were placed into a potential running order, and believes the finished sequence flows as a coherent album rather than a loose collection accumulated over several years.

The drummer believes Anthrax have pushed beyond their recent records while retaining heavy riffs and large melodic hooks.

Bassist Frank Bello has described Joey Belladonna’s vocal performances as among his strongest with the group. Guitarist Scott Ian has emphasised the record’s riff-driven character, faster songs and deliberately prominent choruses. Several pieces reportedly move into areas Anthrax have not previously explored, while others are designed as concise thrash songs suited to the live set.

The long gap followed the pandemic, side projects and the practical difficulties of coordinating members living in different cities. Anthrax began exchanging digital demos before Benante, Bello and Ian assembled the arrangements in person. The band intend to focus heavily on the album and its touring cycle throughout 2026. A first song was initially planned before the end of 2025, though final release details remain unannounced.
