Bret Michaels Forced Into Extended Hiatus Following Surgery Complications

Poison frontman Bret Michaels has announced he will take the next several months off from touring to focus on his recovery following a series of recent surgeries. The decision comes after a performance at The Bowl at Sugar Hill on August 21, where medical professionals determined that the singer required immediate and extended rest.

Michaels underwent surgery in July to treat a "complicated obstructing kidney stone" after experiencing severe pain during a show in Spokane, Washington. The procedure, which involved the placement of a ureteral stent, was complicated by his lifelong battle with Type 1 Diabetes. His physicians, Dr. Abby Borhan and Dr. Patel, noted that the high-intensity environment of touring, combined with summer heat and humidity, posed significant risks to his blood sugar levels and immune system.

Bret will be taking the next several months off to heal and get back to 100%.

While Michaels attempted to return to the stage just weeks after his operation, the medical team intervened following his latest appearance. The Michaels Entertainment Group issued a formal apology for the cancellation of upcoming dates, including appearances at The Mountain music festival. The group stated they are now looking toward 2027 for his return to the stage.

His medical team highlighted that his condition required a sterile environment and strict hydration schedules that are difficult to maintain on the road. The hiatus is intended to ensure he can return "healthy, strong and ready to rock" once his recovery is complete.
